Barrington finalist for governor award
The village of Barrington is a finalist for the 2021 Governor's Hometown Awards presented by the Serve Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service.
Barrington is being recognized for its Dreamway project, an environmental improvement initiative along Flint Creek between Langendorf Park and Barrington High School. The village worked on the project with the Barrington Park District and Barrington Area Unit District 220 schools.
The other Hometown Award finalists are The Hope Center of Albion, the village of Flossmoor and the Young Leaders in Action of Decatur.
The awards ceremony Tuesday will feature an introduction of the top awardee - the Governor's Cup winner - by Gov. J.B. Pritzker.
"The awards are an important event for Serve Illinois and a time to honor the dedication and hard work of all volunteers who gave time and resources to better Illinois. This year has been especially challenging for everyone because of COVID-19, and volunteerism and service has never been so important. We look forward to celebrating those individuals and groups that prioritized helping others in an already challenging time," said Noelle Ayoka Mota Samuels, executive director of the Serve Illinois Commission.
Awards will be given in six project categories in four population divisions, for a total 24 awards.
