Plainfield man sentenced to six months in jail for 2019 crash
A Plainfield man was sentenced Monday to six months in jail for a wrong-way crash on I-355 that severely injured a pregnant woman in Downers Grove.
Marco Alegria, 35, of the 20800 block of West Brockton Court, will also serve 30 months of probation and wear an alcohol-monitoring device until October 2023, according to DuPage County court records.
Alegria pleaded guilty in November to aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol. Authorities said his blood alcohol content was 0.13%. The legal threshold is 0.08%.
He was driving a vehicle south in the northbound lanes of I-355 at 5:30 a.m. April 21, 2019, when he crashed head-on into a car near Butterfield Road. The driver of that car suffered a broken leg and ankle, and a hip injury. Doctors had to deliver her baby prematurely to save it, authorities said.
