Dozens skate with the bunny in Hoffman Estates

A capacity registration of 50 participants took part in a Skate with the Bunny event on Sunday in Hoffman Estates.

Registered participants taking part in the early afternoon session could spend one hour skating on Rink 2 at the Triphahn Center and Ice Arena at 1685 W. Higgins Road.

The event was not an egg hunt, but youngsters could dance on the ice with the plush bunny. There were orange safety cones, too, for the youngsters to help with the cool dance.

"We're excited to be able to get the families back on the ice," said Melissa Motyka-Ciavarella of Elgin, figure skating manager for the Hoffman Estates Park District.

"The restrictions have come down. We're very excited that the families can come back and skate together."

The plush bunny had many fans, including the Gaddini family of Rolling Meadows. Nick and Gina Gaddini took their children Arianna, 5, and Nikko, 3.

"I hope that (her children) get somewhat of a normal year considering COVID," Gina Gaddini said. "And that they can have fun, still being able to see the bunny."

Additional Easter-related events next weekend include a Drive By Bunny and Doggie Egg Hunt Eggstravaganza events. For more information visit www.heparks.org.
