Elmhurst University offers COVID relief grant

Elmhurst University has created a COVID relief grant to support students who have struggled as a result of the pandemic.

The COVID relief grant is a renewable scholarship of up to $1,000 that can be awarded to incoming students who indicate they have been negatively affected by COVID-19. For example, students may have experienced a financial, emotional or academic toll due to a parent who has lost a job or experienced a cut in hours. Difficulties with remote learning or pandemic-related stress are also considerations.

"We understand that the pandemic has caused some real challenges for many of our incoming students and their families," vice president for admission Timothy Ricordati said in a statement. "We hope this grant will give those students some added reassurance, and free them up to focus optimistically on their future."

All incoming first-year and transfer students for the fall 2021 and spring 2022 terms are eligible for the grant. Students can indicate on their admission application that they have been negatively affected by COVID-19, and identify whether the impact has been academic, financial, health-related or other.

Applications will be reviewed weekly. First-year and transfer students who already have been admitted for fall 2021 also will be notified about this opportunity.

The grant is stackable, meaning it can be given in addition to any financial aid a student already may have been awarded.
