Lombard man accused of supporting ISIS faces new gun, drug charges

A Lombard man accused of attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State group had firearm and drug charges added to a federal indictment, officials said Thursday.

Jason Brown, 38, also known as "Abdul Ja' Me" and "Matthew Dobbs," was originally charged in 2019 with attempting on three separate occasions to provide $500 in cash to ISIS with knowledge of the group's terrorist activity.

A superseding indictment filed in U.S. court alleges that Brown illegally possessed four loaded handguns "in furtherance" of a drug trafficking crime that included distributing meth, according to a news release from the U.S. attorney's office.

Brown has been in custody since being arrested in 2019 and pleaded not guilty to the new charges during his arraignment Thursday.

Among the charges and possible sentences in the superseding indictment were three counts of attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization (20 years), one count of drug conspiracy involving the possession of marijuana plants (up life in prison and a minimum of 10 years), one count of distribution of a controlled substance involving fentanyl (up life in prison and a minimum of 10 years), one count of distribution of a controlled substance involving marijuana (30 years), one count of possession of methamphetamines with intent to distribute (up to life in prison and a minimum of 15 years), one count of illegal possession of a firearm as a convicted felon (10 years) and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime (up to life in prison and a minimum of five years), officials said.
