Lombard Park District truck sinks into pond

A Lombard Park District pickup truck sank into a pond at Four Seasons Park Wednesday morning, officials said.

A worker was clearing ice for ice skating about 9:30 a.m. and hit a weak patch. Truck sank into the pond, which is about 18 to 20 feet deep, according to Paul Friedrichs, executive director of the Lombard Park District. The worker was able to escape before the truck was submerged, Friedrichs said.

Friedrichs said the Lombard Fire Department and several other local fire departments used the sunken truck Thursday morning for ice and cold-water training, and West & Sons towing pulled it out later Thursday.
