Man faces felony gun and drug charges after arrest in Kane County

A Lynwood man is facing felony drug and gun charges after more than half a pound of suspected cocaine and a stolen handgun were found inside in a vehicle during a Tuesday traffic stop in Kane County, authorities said.

Anthony Lane, 41, is charged with armed violence, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm by a street gang member, all felonies.

According to the Kane County sheriff's office, a vehicle Lane was driving was pulled over on Interstate 90 at Route 47 for a traffic violation. The sheriff's detective smelled burned cannabis and investigated further, the release said. Lane admitted to having open cannabis inside the vehicle, authorities said. The detective searched the vehicle and found 253 grams of suspected cocaine and a stolen handgun.

In addition to the felony charges, Lane was issued a citation for possession of cannabis. He was not charged with any traffic violations, according to Kane County court records.

The detective who pulled him over is part of the sheriff's specialized criminal interdiction team.

Bail was set at $250,000. Lane would have to post $25,000 to be freed while the case is pending.

The 40-caliber handgun was reported stolen in Minnesota, according to court records.

Lane's next court date is Feb. 11 before Kane County Judge David Kliment.
