Schneider collecting Valentine's Day cards for local veterans

U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider has announced the launch of the Tenth District "Valentines for Vets" program to collect and distribute Valentine's Day cards to local veterans.

Constituents of all ages are encouraged to participate by dropping off cards in a drop box at Schneider's office at 111 Barclay Blvd, Suite 200, Lincolnshire. The deadline for submissions is Friday, Feb. 12.

"Every one of us has struggled with the reality of not seeing loved ones due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and veterans are no exception," Schneider said in an announcement of the program. "I always want to make sure we take the time to recognize and appreciate the sacrifices that our brave veterans have made for this country, but even more so during this time of isolation and loneliness. A card or handwritten Valentine's Day note is a small gesture that will make a big difference in making veterans feel loved and appreciated."

This is the fifth year that Schneider, a Democrat from Deerfield, has hosted the program. In previous years, his office collected more than 1,000 cards from constituents and area schoolchildren. The cards were distributed to veterans at Lovell Federal Health Care Center and a breakfast of the Lake County Honor Flight.
