Waukegan man charged in Beach Park double homicide

A Waukegan man has been charged in a double homicide that happened in December in Beach Park.

Timothy D. Triplett Jr., 34, of the 2100 block of Georgetown Lane, was arrested without incident Wednesday by multiple members of the Lake County sheriff's office. An arrest warrant on two counts of first-degree murder in deaths of Carlos Rodas Perez and Mercedes Rodas was issued Tuesday, according to a news release.

Lake County deputies responded to the 10000 block of West Wadsworth Road at 9:40 p.m. Dec. 8 and found the victims in a garage. Both had been shot. The deputies tried lifesaving measures, but Perez, 52, and Rodas, 49, died at the scene, the news release said.

"Two lives were violently and senselessly lost last month at the hands of another," Sheriff John D. Idleburg said. "I am very proud of our detectives for their relentless pursuit seeking justice for a husband and wife who were murdered. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims."

Triplett is being held in the Lake County jail on $5 million bail.
