Carol Stream man accused of conspiring to steal, resell employer's computer equipment

A Carol Stream man is accused of conspiring to steal computer equipment from the company where he worked and sell it to businesses in California and Texas.

Donald Wilson, 42, took computer servers, hard drives and other equipment from 2015 to 2018 from the Chicago company where he was a data center engineer, according to charges in a federal indictment.

He then conspired with Ivan Sierra, 38, of Lincroft, New Jersey, who sold the equipment to businesses in Chatsworth, California, and Stafford, Texas, for more than $500,000, the indictment states.

The indictment was returned Thursday in federal court in Chicago.

Each man is charged with one count of conspiracy to transport stolen goods and two counts of transportation of stolen goods. Arraignments have not been scheduled.

The conspiracy count is punishable by a maximum sentence of five years in federal prison, while each transportation count carries a maximum sentence of 10 years.
