Man convicted of threatening to kill Kane County judge

A former Aurora man was convicted Friday of threatening a public official.

Judge Philip G. Montgomery, a visiting judge from the 23rd Judicial Circuit, found 48-year-old James Warren guilty of threatening a Kane County judge and his family, according to a news release from the Kane County state's attorney's office.

On June 26, 2018, Warren posted, on his public Facebook page, threats to kill the judge presiding over a family-court case involving Warren. He also posted threatening comments June 28, 2018 and July 24, 2018.

At the time of Warren's arrest, a sheriff's spokesman said Warren had a child-support case in front of Judge Rene Cruz.

Warren could be sentenced to probation or up to five years in prison. He remains free on bond while awaiting sentencing.

His next court date is March 5.
