Aurora men, juvenile charged with attempted murder in Nov. 29 shooting

Authorities arrested three people on charges of attempted murder and multiple other felonies after a shooting in the city's near east side that left a man in critical condition Nov. 29.

An investigation found that Francisco Perez, 24, of the 200 block of South Ohio Street in Aurora, gave handguns to Ismael Perez, 21, of the 400 block of Grand Avenue in Aurora, and a 16-year-old Aurora juvenile before driving to the scene of the shooting, police said.

Aurora police responded to the 800 block of Claim Street about 3:15 that day after reports of shots fired, Aurora police said. Witnesses of the shooting called 911 and gave officers information to help them track the suspects.

While Aurora officers were investigating, Aurora's dispatch center was notified about 3:30 of a man with gunshot wounds who arrived in the emergency room at an area hospital.

Police said witnesses saw a suspect vehicle go to a home on the 200 block of South Ohio Street, where officers later unsuccessfully attempted to make contact with the people inside. Aurora police's Special Response team was called to the scene.

Police made loudspeaker announcements for the occupants to come outside for more than an hour, and just after 6 p.m. Aurora police crisis negotiators and the Special Response team contacted a man inside the house by phone and persuaded him and five others to come outside.

Three females, an infant and three males came out of the house "without incident" and with no injuries reported, police said.

Police obtained a search warrant for the house and detectives arrived to search the home, where they found numerous firearms, police said. Two men and one juvenile male were found in the house and taken into police custody.

Police did not suggest a motive or other details about how the shooting happened.

The three suspects were each charged with one felony count of first-degree attempted murder, four felony counts of aggravated battery with a firearm and two felony counts of armed violence, police said. Both Francisco and Ismael Perez were additionally charged with one felony count of aggravated discharge of a firearm.

They appeared in Kane County bond court Thursday, where bail for Francisco Perez was set at $1 million, Ismael Perez $600,000 and the 16-year-old $500,000. Their next court appearance is Dec. 11 at 9 a.m. in Kane County courtroom 319.
