Carpentersville man faces guns, explosives charges

A Carpentersville man has been charged with several weapons and explosives-related crimes, authorities said.

Nicholas High, 22, of the 4300 block of Northgate Drive, is charged with: aggravated discharge of a firearm; reckless discharge of a firearm; illegal possession, sale, or manufacture of bombs; and possession of a firearm and ammunition without firearm owners identification.

Carpentersville police say they were called to a report of a man with a weapon at 4:49 p.m. Nov. 15 on the 4300 block of Northgate. They said they learned High had fired a weapon in a backyard. They also said they were given a 9 mm handgun someone had taken away from High.

Police said they were told High had more guns and ammunition in his residence. Police said they found and arrested him in a house on Northgate. They also said they saw and confiscated a handgun in a house next door to which High had access.

After obtaining a search warrant, they searched his house and found more than 1,500 rounds of ammunition, and jars of gunpowder, police said.

High's FOID had been revoked, police said.

He is free on a cash bond and is next due in court Dec. 10.
