DuPage County, Bensenville recognized for stormwater project

DuPage County Stormwater Management and the village of Bensenville recently received an "Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement" award for the Redmond Reservoir Expansion Project.

The award from the Illinois Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers is presented to local projects that "exhibit superior engineering accomplishments and represent significant contributions to civil engineering progress," officials said.

Completed in 2019, the Redmond Reservoir Expansion Project provided flooding relief to a large portion of Bensenville by expanding the reservoir by an additional 7 million gallons and improving the existing pump station.

The project also enhanced recreational use of the reservoir by improving the walking path around it, as well as incorporating habitat enhancement and water quality features, such as shoreline stabilization and native plantings.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development provided grant funding for the $2.75 million project.
