Wheeling parolee charged with selling ecstasy to undercover officer

A Wheeling parolee with drug cases pending in Skokie and Rolling Meadows courthouses was ordered held without bail Thursday after, prosecutors say, he sold MDMA, also known as ecstasy, on multiple occasions to an undercover police officer.

Prentiss Murray, who prosecutors say is on parole for a 2016 home invasion conviction, is charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. If convicted of the most serious charges, he faces up to 30 years in prison.

He was held without bail for violating his bond on the pending cases.

Prosecutors say Murray sold MDMA, in amounts ranging from four pills to 25 pills, to an undercover officer with the Illinois State Police North Central Narcotics Task Force. Four sales took place from Aug. 12 through Oct. 9 on the 0-100 block of Plum Court Drive in Wheeling, prosecutors said. The purchase price ranged from $120 to $500 per transaction, said Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Nicole Murphy.

On Nov. 11, state parole officers placed Murray in custody after doing a parole check at his home, Murphy said.

His next court date is Dec. 4.
