Elk Grove Village collects household goods for homeless veterans

For the fourth year, Elk Grove Village VFW Post 9284 collected items for veterans in need.

The post worked in collaboration with the Community Character Coalition of Elk Grove to gather clothing and toiletries for homeless veterans Saturday.

A steady line of cars pulled through the VFW parking lot at 400 E. Devon Ave. A host of waiting volunteers quickly removed boxes of clothes and household items from one set of vehicles and transferred them to a second set of vehicles destined for the Eddie Beard Vet House, a transitional home for veterans.

"Veterans have done so much for us," said volunteer David Miller of Elk Grove Village. "This is our little way of giving back."
