Elgin Twp. man gets probation on cocaine charge

An Elgin Township man caught with LSD, cocaine, psychedelic mushrooms, marijuana and other drugs while trespassing at his parents' house pleaded guilty Friday to possession of a controlled substance - cocaine - with intent to deliver.

Zachary T. Lorenz, 22, of the 10N700 block of Prairie Crossing, was sentenced to four years of probation.

According to assistant Kane County state's attorney Kelly Orland, deputies found 13.2 grams of a substance containing cocaine.

On Oct. 10, 2018, Lorenz' father called 911 to report that Lorenz, who had been kicked out of the house several weeks earlier, was inside the house. The father was not home at the time, but saw his son on a doorbell camera, and gave deputies permission to enter the house.

Deputies found 110 doses of LSD, the cocaine, 93 grams of marijuana, 5.5 grams of Ecstasy, 56 grams of psychedelic mushrooms, and drug paraphernalia.

Charges were filed in February 2019, after a state police laboratory confirmed the contents of some pills.

Lorenz could have been sentenced to 4 to 15 years in prison.

Tegeler ordered Lorenz continue to undergo drug-abuse treatment.
