Patlak holds lead in Cook County Board of Review race

Incumbent Republican Dan Patlak held a steady lead Wednesday in the race for the 1st District seat on the Cook County Board of Review.

Patlak had 276,60 votes and his opponent, Democrat Tammy Wendt, had 248,841 votes, with 1,065 of 1,084 precincts reporting, according to unofficial tallies.

A total 152,662 mail-in ballots that had been requested by voters were still unaccounted for Wednesday morning in suburban Cook County, election officials reported. Ballots postmarked by Nov. 3 will be counted if they arrive by Nov. 17.

Patlak, of Wheeling, has served in the office for 10 years.

Wendt is a Palos Heights attorney and licensed real estate broker.

The board of review hears appeals from homeowners and business owners who believe their property tax assessments are too high. The 1st District stretches from the Northwest suburbs and North Shore to the far South suburbs.
