Walsh with early lead over Yingling in Distict 62 race

Early vote results in State House District 62 showed incumbent Sam Yingling, a Democrat from Grayslake, trailing his Republican challenger Jim Walsh of Round Lake Beach.

Walsh had 5,966 votes to Yingling's 4,804. Those unofficial tallies also include early votes and many mail-in ballots.

However, other mail ballots requested by voters could still be returned. Ballots postmarked by Tuesday will be counted if they arrive by Nov. 17.

Walsh, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, ran on a campaign of reforming property tax, pensions and school funding.

Yingling is the former supervisor in Avon Township.

District 62 covers an area that include parts of Gurnee, Waukegan, Wauconda, Grayslake and the Round Lake communities.
