Rosemont's Stephens increases lead on Democrat Darbro for 20th District seat

With 97.6% of precincts reporting votes, incumbent Republican state Rep. Brad Stephens showed 22,984 votes to Democratic opponent Michelle Darbro's 16,221 in Tuesday's election for the 20th District.

The Associated Press has projected Stephens to be the winner.

Stephens, the mayor of Rosemont, is finishing his first term in the General Assembly after being appointed to fill a seat vacated by former Rep. Michael McAuliffe, the only Chicago Republican in the Illinois House.

Darbro is a Chicago firefighter/paramedic.

Both have clashed over Gov. J.B. Pritzker's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and whether powerful Speaker Michael Madigan should resign after allegations of cronyism.
