Republicans lead in several countywide races in DuPage

Republicans fended off Democrats looking to make inroads in DuPage County.

On Tuesday night, Republican candidates were beating Democratic opponents - though sometimes narrowly - in several countywide, county board and forest preserve races.

Countywide

GOP incumbent Chris Kachiroubas of Elmhurst was leading in the clerk of the circuit court race against Democrat Candice Adams of Lisle. With 773 of 930 precincts reporting, unofficial results showed Kachiroubas with 153,928 votes and Adams with 153,743.

In the county auditor race, Republican incumbent Bob Grogan of Downers Grove was leading Democrat William White of Downers Grove. Unofficial results showed Grogan with 176,594 votes and White with 167,058.

In the coroner race, Republican incumbent Richard Jorgensen of Wheaton was leading Democrat Gregory Whalen of Clarendon Hills. Unofficial results showed Jorgensen with 178,198 votes and Whalen with 163,196.

Democrat Kathleen Carrier of Carol Stream was leading in the county recorder race against Republican Babette Holder Youngberg of Wheaton. Unofficial results showed Carrier with 172,297 votes and Youngberg with 167,052.

County board

Republican incumbent Donald Puchalski of Addison was leading in his DuPage County Board District 1 race against Democrat Zahra Suratwala of Elmhurst. With 108 of 136 precincts reporting, unofficial results showed Puchalski with 27,857 votes and Suratwala with 22,556.

In District 2, Republican incumbent Sean Noonan of Elmhurst was leading Democrat Paula Deacon Garcia of Lisle. With 139 of 171 precincts reporting, unofficial results showed Noonan with 30,641 votes and Garcia with 29,772.

In District 3, Republican incumbent Brian Krajewski of Downers Grove was leading in his race with Democrat Gail Cabala-Lowry of Downers Grove. With 136 of 162 precincts reporting, unofficial results showed Krajewski with 31,839 votes and Cabala-Lowry with 28,200.

In District 4, Republican incumbent Tim Elliott of Glen Ellyn was leading Democrat Lynn LaPlante of Glen Ellyn. With 142 of 164 precincts reporting, unofficial results showed Elliott with 29,483 votes and LaPlante with 28,185.

In District 5, Democrat Amy Chavez of Naperville was leading against Republican Kevin Coyne, a Naperville City Council member. With 124 of 164 precincts reporting, unofficial results showed Chavez with 33,205 votes and Coyne with 26,232.

In the race for a county board District 6 seat, Republican incumbent Bob Larsen of Wheaton was leading against Democrat Greg Schwarze, a Carol Stream village trustee and firefighter. With 140 of 152 precincts reporting, unofficial results showed Larsen with 28,555 votes and Schwarze with 26,935.

Forest preserve

In the races for three seats on the forest preserve board, Lombard Democrat Tina Tyson-Dunne was leading against Downers Grove Republican Karen Kelly in District 2. Incumbent Tim Whelan, a Wheaton Republican, was leading Democrat Jeff Gahris of Wheaton in District 4. And Democrat Barbara O'Meara of Naperville was leading Republican incumbent Mary Lou Wehrli of Naperville in District 5.
