Democrat Ness has narrow lead in 66th House District race

Early returns in the race for the 66th House District show Republican incumbent Allen Skillicorn trailing Democratic challenger Suzanne Ness with about 99% of precincts reporting votes cast on Election Day.

According to early returns, Ness, of Crystal Lake, has 28,483 votes or 52% to 26,668 votes or 48% for Skillicorn, of East Dundee. Those unofficial tallies also include early votes and many mail-in ballots.

Those tallies do not include mail-in ballots that have yet to arrive. In Kane County, 92,088 ballots were mailed to voters who requested them. Of those ballots, 10,917 have not been returned. In McHenry County, 68,203 ballots were mailed to voters who requested them. Of those ballots, 18,306 have not been returned.

The district, which spans Kane and McHenry counties, includes parts of Algonquin, Crystal Lake, East Dundee, West Dundee, Elgin, Gilberts, Huntley, Sleepy Hollow Lake in the Hills and Lakewood.

Ballots postmarked by Tuesday will be counted if they arrive by Nov. 17.
