Dryer starts fire in Rolling Meadows

A dryer fire at a condo complex in Rolling Meadows caused damage but no injuries late Wednesday morning.

The Rolling Meadows Fire Department was dispatched at 9:58 a.m. to Carriageway Court Condominiums, 5400 Carriageway Dr., where there was smoke coming from a laundry room in the basement garage.

According to the Rolling Meadows Fire Department, one commercial dryer was destroyed and another one next to it was damaged significantly by the heat. The fire was confined to the laundry room.

Fire departments from Palatine, Palatine Rural, Elk Grove Village and Schaumburg also assisted. Elk Grove used its Mobile Ventilation Unit to remove smoke from the garage.

"It would have taken hours to evacuate all the smoke in the basement. Instead, it took about 15 minutes," a statement on the Rolling Meadows Fire Department Facebook Page said. Tenants were initially evacuated but were allowed to return to their units by the afternoon.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
