Buffalo Grove extends sales-tax deal with Hines Lumber for 20 more years
Buffalo Grove is renewing its 20-year-old sales tax sharing agreement with its largest sales tax generator, Edward Hines Lumber Co., for two more decades.
The terms remain the same, with Hines receiving 60% of the sales tax generated through November 2040 from its location at 1000 Corporate Grove Drive. The site serves as Hines' corporate headquarters as well as a showroom.
The deal ensures that Hines remains in the village for the next 20 years, Deputy Village Manager Christopher Stilling said.
"To be able to keep a big revenue producer like Hines in the village for another 20 years is significant, so for any residents who say, 'Well we're throwing money at a company,' in fact we're keeping this company within our boundaries, and it's been quite profitable for us, as you can look at the records of the last 20 years." Trustee Joanne Johnson added.
Village Manager Dane Bragg, when asked about the financial benefit to the village, said in an email that nondisclosure agreements prevent the village from disclosing the amount of sales tax Hines generates.
"Hines is the largest sales tax generator in the village and has been for many years," he wrote.
