Elk Grove Village man among 3 seriously hurt in crash
An Elk Grove Village man was among three people taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a three-vehicle crash late Wednesday on the Edens Expressway in Chicago.
A preliminary investigation by the Illinois State Police indicates a motorcycle driven by Nicholas A. Boyd, 27, of Chicago, with passenger Tiffany S. Crape, 28, of Chicago, was traveling south on Interstate 94 north of Lake Avenue when it struck the rear of a trailer being pulled by a 2011 Kia.
The impact caused the motorcycle to veer across two lanes.
It was then struck by a motorcycle driven by 24-year-old Ardjent Bektesi of Elk Grove Village. Bektesi's motorcycle then hit the concrete wall on the left side of the roadway.
Boyd, Crape and Bektesi each suffered life-threatening injuries.
The two occupants of the 2011 Kia, Chicago men ages 55 and 58, were taken to the hospital with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening.
Bektesi was issued citations for violation of driver's license classification, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a canceled, suspended or revoked Illinois registration and driving too fast for conditions or failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, according to a news release.
All lanes of the Edens were closed at 11:57 p.m. for the investigation and cleanup. The northbound lanes reopened at 12:47 a.m., and the southbound lanes reopened at 5:41 a.m., the state police said.
