New sewage pump for Barrington High School

Barrington High School's 1950s-era sewage pump soon will be retired.

Barrington Area Unit District 220 board members Tuesday night approved a $212,269 contract with DeFranco Plumbing Inc. of Palatine to replace what officials say is a roughly 70-year-old sewage pump. DeFranco was selected through a bidding process.

Officials said the plumbing work will be the start of about $62 million worth of improvement projects slated for the high school as a result of voters approving a $147 million borrowing plan for the district in March. By law, the funds must be used for capital improvement projects.
