Bail set at $1M for Elgin man accused of having 11 pounds of marijuana, 200 doses of LSD

A 23-year-old Elgin man is being held on $1 million bail after his arrest on felony charges he possessed at least 11 pounds of marijuana and over 200 doses of LSD.

Luis C. Juarez, 23, of the 400 block of North Street, faces numerous felony charges after his arrest late last week by members of the North Central Narcotics Task Force, a division of the state police, according to Kane County court records.

The most severe charges are manufacture/delivery of 200 to 600 parts of LSD and manufacture/delivery of 5,000 grams or more of cannabis. If convicted of the most severe charges, Juarez faces a sentence ranging from six to 30 years in prison with no chance of probation.

Repeated email and phone messages to the task force this week seeking additional information about the arrest and the amount of drugs seized were not returned.

Juarez is charged with possession of more than 5,000 grams of marijuana; 5,000 grams equates to just over 11 pounds.

Juarez must post $100,000 bond to be released from the Kane County jail while the case is pending. He appeared briefly in court Wednesday and is next due in court on Aug. 28.
