Public visitation Saturday for Elk Grove's Petri

A public visitation and service will be held Saturday as part of a Celebration of Life of James "Jim" Paul Petri, the longest-serving elected official in Elk Grove Village history.

The visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. in the council chambers at the Charles J. Zettek Municipal Complex, 901 Wellington Ave.

Petri, who didn't seek reelection in April 2019 after serving a record four decades on the village board, died in his home July 23. He was 86.

Referred to as one of the deans of the Northwest suburbs and Elk Grove's elder statesman, Petri helped oversee development of the village's infrastructure, brought cable television to town, and served on several regional and local committees.
