Beyond the Byline: Senior Managing Editor Diane Dungey
A love of writing brought Diane Dungey into journalism, but her chief delights on the job are meeting and learning about interesting people and producing work that holds government accountable.
As senior deputy managing editor, she helps direct daily news coverage and investigative projects for the Daily Herald.
A member of the editorial board, she contributes to the opinion page and helps frame the newspaper's stances on issues of importance to suburban readers.
Diane has devoted her career to the Daily Herald and is a former employee of the year. In the newsroom, she's been an award-winning special projects editor and investigative reporter and has covered criminal courts, education and several municipal beats. She formerly led the features department, where she directed entertainment and lifestyle coverage.
Diane was named one of the most powerful women in Chicago journalism by media columnist Robert Feder in 2018 and 2019.
She grew up in downstate Kewanee and is a Hall of Fame alumna of Wethersfield High School. She holds a journalism degree from Northern Illinois University and lives with her husband in the Northwest suburbs.
When she's not at work, she loves traveling and being outdoors, especially kayaking, camping, hiking or skiing.
