Mundelein police chief chosen as next village administrator

Mundelein Police Chief Eric Guenther will be the village's next top administrator.

The village board on Monday approved Guenther's appointment to the post with a 4-2 vote. Trustees Robin Meier and Erich Schwenk voted against the appointment.

Guenther will succeed veteran Administrator John Lobaito, who is retiring. Guenther has been with the police department since 1995 and has been chief since 2013. He'll start his new job Aug. 3.

Lobaito has been administrator since 2005. He delayed retirement because of the COVID-19 crisis.
