COVID-19 antibody testing in Naperville

Oswald's Pharmacy in Naperville is set to begin an FDA-approved antibody testing process for COVID-19 on Friday.

The sixth-generation family-owned pharmacy at 88 W. Gartner Road is set to offer 78 testing slots starting Friday and continuing five days next week, then will adjust appointments as needed to accommodate customer demand.

Antibody testing, also referred to as serological testing, is used to detect antibodies against the COVID-19 virus in a person's blood. The presence of antibodies means the person has developed an immune response to the virus.

Oswald's lab director, Brian Kelly, helped hire two new certified phlebotomists to draw venous blood for the tests, which will be analyzed on site, producing results in 15 minutes. The testing process Oswald's will use, called the Healgen test, is a leading screening tool for COVID-19 antibodies, Manager Alex Anderson said in a news release.
