Arlington Heights trustee appointed to RTA board

Arlington Heights Village Trustee Mary Beth Canty has been appointed to the Regional Transportation Authority Board, where she will help oversee the Chicago Transit Authority, Metra and Pace bus and paratransit service.

Canty's appointment was approved by the Cook County Board's Suburban Caucus last month, along with that of Jamie Gathing, a managing vice president at the Northern Trust Co.

"I am proud and honored to be part of an exciting new era for the RTA Board," Canty said in a news release. "We have a lot of challenges in front of us, and now is the time for bold moves and creative thinking, and I look forward to doing that with my fellow board members."

Canty, who was elected to the village board in April 2019, is an attorney who also serves as co-chair of programming for the League of Women Voters of Arlington Heights, first vice president of Olive-Mary Stitt Parent Teacher Association, and the School District 25 Cultural Awareness Committee.
