Vernon Township swimming pool will open Friday

The swimming pool at William E. Peterson Park near Buffalo Grove will open to the public Friday, Vernon Township officials announced Thursday, but pandemic-related limits will be enforced.

Summer programs and activities are set to begin soon, too.

The pool, at 16652 N. Buffalo Grove Road, initially will be open only for lap swimming. Swim lessons will start Monday.

People must register in advance for either activity. To ensure social distancing, each class size will be limited to four students and lap swimming will be limited to eight swimmers at a time, officials said.

Patrons won't have to wear masks in the water or in organized groups on the pool deck, but they must wear masks at all other times at the facility. Employees will sanitize the facility at least every two hours.

Patrons should arrive showered and already in their bathing suits.

Yoga, dance and athletic conditioning are among the programs being offered this summer. So is a mini camp for kids.
