Fire leaves Lake Zurich home uninhabitable

A fire on a wooden deck in the back of a Lake Zurich home early Saturday morning has made the home uninhabitable, the Lake Zurich Fire Department reported.

Lake Zurich firefighters responded to the residential fire on the 500 block of Carolian Drive in Lake Zurich at 3:20 a.m. The first unit was on the scene in just more than three minutes and found a two-story single-family residence with an attached wooden deck where fire was extending into the first and second floor along with the attic space.

The residents were alerted to the fire by their working smoke detectors evacuated the house safely.

Firefighters deployed hose lines and had the fire under control at 3:45 a.m., but the home suffered significant damage.

The cause of the fire appears to be accidental, and no injuries were reported.

The Lake Zurich fire department receive assistance from the Barrington, Barrington Countryside, Buffalo Grove, Fox Lake, Grayslake, Long Grove, Wauconda and Wheeling fire departments.
