Sign removal a mistake, Libertyville mayor says

Reports that a Libertyville village employee asked a business to remove a Black Lives Matter sign from a window prompted a response Friday afternoon from Mayor Terry Weppler.

In an email to residents, Weppler said the employee was asked to take down signs that were posted on public property in the business district. The employee also went to one business and asked that a sign in the window be removed, Weppler said.

"This was a mistake by the employee and I apologize and take full responsibility for his actions. He misunderstood the direction he was given," Weppler told residents.
