Police: Man walked through Buffalo Grove neighborhood with pellet rifle

Buffalo Grove police arrested a man on a disorderly conduct charge early Tuesday morning after they say officers found him and a second man walking through a village neighborhood armed with a realistic-looking pellet rifle.

According to police, officers were called to the 1100 block of Miller Lane at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday after a resident reported seeing people wearing masks and carrying what appeared to be a rifle.

Officers located two men, one carrying a long dark object, and asked them to stop, police said. The men instead fled, dropping the object as they ran. Officers caught up with them, police said, and they stopped and cooperated with commands.

Officers later located the object that was dropped, a metal pellet rifle. The men were questioned and one was charged with disorderly conduct, according to police.

Authorities did not immediately disclose the man's identity, age or hometown.

"Officers are forced to make split-second decisions and, as you can see in the accompanying photo, the rifle appears to be real," police said in a Facebook post about the arrest. "Had the person not dropped it, this situation could have turned out much differently."

Police encouraged residents to call 911 if they see something suspicious.
