Six Huntley High graduates receive scholarships from Rotary Club

Six Huntley High School graduates were each awarded $500 scholarships from the Rotary Club of Huntley.

Graduating seniors Julianna Ghanayem, Hadley Giovacchini, Samantha Martel, Victoria Smolen, Heather Strait and Maryam Syed received the scholarship money. The six students and their parents joined a virtual Zoom meeting to discuss future plans and goals.

Ghanayem will study at Carroll University with plans to be a pediatric nurse practitioner; Giovacchini will study pre-med/bio-chemistry and Spanish at Wisconsin Lutheran College and learn how to treat and prevent illnesses; Martel will study to be an emergency room doctor or surgeon in pre-med/neuroscience at the University of Alabama-Birmingham; Smolen plans to study computer science and Spanish at DePaul; Strait will study at McHenry County College to become a vision itinerant certified teacher; Syed will study at Marquette to become a physician assistant.

Rotary Club of Huntley raises funds for civic support, including scholarships, through the Rotary Memorial Day Carnival, "Huntley's Got Talent" show, and fresh sweet corn booths at Rockin' Ribfest.
