California woman charged with attempted kidnapping in Aurora-area home invasion

A California woman has been charged with breaking into an Aurora Township home Monday while armed with a gun, baseball bat and knife in an attempt to kidnap her child, authorities said.

Angela LaGrone, 50, of Winnetka, California, is charged with six counts of home invasion, one count of attempted aggravated kidnapping, four counts of aggravated battery and three counts of unlawful use of a weapon, all felonies, according to the Kane County sheriff's office.

Deputies responding at about 10:45 a.m. Monday to the home in the 1200 block of Summit Avenue found a 46-year-old resident struggling with LaGrone.

The man and LaGrone have a child who lives with the man, authorities said. LaGrone is accused of coming to the Aurora Township home to take the child, authorities said.

Authorities said LaGrone cut open a window screen to get inside and had a brief struggle with the man's sister, 67.

The man came to his sister's aid and both were hit with the bat, bitten and the man sustained lacerations to his head from a knife, authorities said. No shots were fired, officials said.

Both LaGrone and the man were taken to a Rush-Copley Medical Center for treatment and released, officials said.

Neither LaGrone's bond amount nor her next court day were immediately available on Tuesday. If convicted of the most severe charges of home invasion, she would face a sentence ranging from six to 30 years.
