Flooded roads in Hampshire

Saturday night's heavy rain caused water to swell over the banks of the Coon Creek, causing significant flooding at the intersection of Route 72 and State Street in downtown Hampshire.

By 10 p.m., the flooding was beginning to subside.

Lieutenant John DePauw of the Hampshire fire department said a lot of roads in town had flash flooding.

"Most of them were draining out (by 10:45 p.m.)," he added. "A lot of the roads in the rural country were flooded out, like 72 and Warner Street, and quite a few roads in town also got washed out with flash flooding.

"But when we were out chasing calls and investigating, most of the water was draining pretty rapidly. We were down to just some minor areas with flooding."

DePauw was unaware of any roads that had to be closed.
