Buffalo Grove, Vernon Township giving away face coverings

Buffalo Grove, in partnership with Vernon Township, will provide 17,500 face covers at no charge to residents beginning Thursday, May 28.

Over a three-week period, 2,500 covers will be handed out twice weekly at Vernon Township, 3050 N. Main St. in Buffalo Grove. A maximum of five face covers will be provided per household, and they will be available in adult and youth sizes.

"We are proud to partner with the township to help ensure all our residents have access to face covers to continue to flatten the curve," Village Manager Dane Bragg said in an announcement of the program Thursday. "We encourage community members to continue following social distancing guidelines as we move toward reopening all facilities, businesses and public spaces in Phases 3 and 4 of the Governor's Restore Illinois Plan."

Face covers will be distributed from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Residents are required to sign up at vernontownship.com prior to the date of pickup under the header "Cloth Masks Available." The face coverings are a cotton/polyester blend and can be washed and reused. They were purchased by the village and the township, with assistance from a federal rant.

"This joint effort between the township and the village furthers our commitment to providing needed supplies to our residents," Vernon Township Supervisor Jonathan Altenberg said.
