2 cats die in Naperville basement fire
Two cats died in a basement fire Monday in Naperville, but no injuries were reported among the four people living in the house or the firefighters who responded, authorities said.
The fire was reported at 11:38 a.m. in a house on the 1200 block of Chateaugay Avenue.
Firefighters arriving six minutes later found smoke coming from the front door and fire in the basement. Crews extinguished the fire within 20 minutes of arrival, then stayed on scene for another 45 minutes to vent smoke from the house and stop any smoldering.
The house was deemed uninhabitable by an inspector from the city's transportation, engineering and development department. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
