Kitchen fire damages Naperville apartment

An early morning kitchen fire at an apartment on Naperville's far northwest side left one unit uninhabitable.

Naperville Fire Department officials said they were called to the apartment complex on the 1400 block of Fairway Drive just after 1:30 a.m. Monday for a reported fire in the kitchen of a second-floor unit.

Two people were evacuated from the building, but did not need any medical assistance, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The unit where the fire happened was the only one that was determined too be uninhabitable, city officials said.

The residents of the unit were assisted by the American Red Cross in finding alternate housing accommodations.

No firefighters were injured battling the blaze.
