Elk Grove cancels 'Play, Picnic & Party'

Following last week's announcement of the postponement of the popular Elk Grove Village summer concert series, officials on Monday canceled another July event over ongoing concerns with large public gatherings during the coronavirus pandemic.

The latest event to be shelved is the Play, Picnic & Party fest originally scheduled for Sunday, July 19. Co-hosted by the village, park district and library since 2016, the family event featured live music and recreational activities. But officials said it will resume in the summer of 2021.

"We would like nothing more than to bring Elk Grove families and kids together for a day of fun activities," Mayor Craig Johnson said in an announcement. "We are all looking forward to the day when we can gather safely. But, unfortunately, we are not there yet. We will get there in the months to come, but it is just too soon to begin hosting large scale events."
