Portion of Mount Prospect Road closing next week in Des Plaines

A weeklong closure of a portion of Mount Prospect Road between I-90 and Howard Avenue in Des Plaines is scheduled to begin next week to accommodate water main work by the Illinois tollway.

Electronic message signs and construction signage will be put in place in advance to alert drivers to the roadway closure and a posted detour.

The work will begin, weather permitting, the week of May 11. Detours will be posted to direct traffic to use Touhy Avenue, Wolf Road and Oakton Street to travel around the roadway closure.

Access to local businesses on Mount Prospect Road will be permitted during the closure, however through traffic will not be allowed.

The roadway closure and detour has been coordinated with the city of Des Plaines, Cook County and the Illinois Department of Transportation to allow the tollway to remove an unused portion of an existing local water main, previously used to serve the former Des Plaines Oasis on I-90. The oasis was removed to accommodate the new interchange currently under construction to connect the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) to the new I-490 Tollway.
