Carol Stream Park District closes water park for the 2020 season

The Coral Cove Water Park in Carol Stream will remain closed for the 2020 swim season.

Carol Stream Park District announced the closure Tuesday, citing guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control recommending against visiting water parks during the pandemic. Park district accounts will be credited if residents had already purchased a 2020 season pass, officials said.

To operate the water park, the district would have needed to comply with social distancing, size limitations keeping gatherings under 50 people and cleaning and disinfecting guidelines, Executive Director Jim Reuter said in a letter to residents.

"We considered the impact of these recommendations on the pool, our community, visitors and staff; and we determined it is unclear how to open the water park and still comply with the strict limits and safety protocols issued by the CDC and Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH)," Reuter wrote.

The water park is adjacent the Simkus Recreation Center.
