Stephens launches social media campaign to honor local heroes
Rosemont Mayor and state Rep. Brad Stephens has launched a social media campaign to honor local heroes on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Starting Friday, the weekly "Highlight a Hero 20/20" contest will recognize those who live and work in the 20th House district, including health care professionals, first responders, child care workers, teachers, small business owners and volunteers.
Nominations are now being accepted at repbradstephens.com/hero, and a committee will choose 10 winners every week through June 26. Winning heroes will get $100 gift cards from local restaurants still open for takeout and delivery, and nominators will get $50 gift cards. People are also encouraged to post the nominations on their Facebook pages.
Restaurants will include The Blossom Café in Norridge, Chick-fil-A in Norridge, Firewater Saloon in Chicago's Edison Park, Frannie's Beef & Catering in Schiller Park, The Great Escape in Schiller Park, Moretti's Ristorante & Pizzeria in Edison Park and Rosemont, Portillo's in Harwood Heights and Park Ridge, and Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers in Harwood Heights.
"It is important to acknowledge the amazing work that so many people are doing to make other people's lives a bit easier during this pandemic," Stephens said in a news release.
"From a dedicated first responder to the neighbor preparing food for a family in need, all acts of kindness offer a notable impact, and I'm proud to recognize the heroes behind them."
The 20th district includes portions of Chicago's Northwest Side, Rosemont, Des Plaines, Park Ridge, Niles, Schiller Park, Franklin Park, Harwood Heights and Norridge.
