Police: Aurora man 2½ times legal threshold in 4th DUI arrest

A 58-year-old Aurora man had a blood-alcohol concentration more than 2½ times the legal threshold when he was arrested last week on charges of his fourth DUI, according to police and Kane County court records.

Gary L. Genslinger, of the 800 block of Oliver Avenue, was arrested and charged with DUI, aggravated DUI, aggravated DUI/fourth offense, DUI with a BAC of .16 or more and driving while license suspended after a traffic stop about 11 p.m. April 15 in Aurora. Genslinger also was cited for improper lane use, illegal possession of cannabis in a motor vehicle and failure to signal after police stopped him in his 2003 tan Mazda as he drove on Prairie Street west toward northbound Route 31, according to court records.

He admitted drinking and being too intoxicated to drive, and he failed field sobriety tests, according to the arresting officer's report. A breath test showed Genslinger's BAC to be .218; the legal threshold in Illinois is .08.

Genslinger's bail was set at $25,000, but he was issued a personal recognizance bond and released, court records show.

Information about Genslinger's previous DUI arrests was not immediately available.

Aurora police arrested and charged him in November 1989 with felony burglary. He later pleaded guilty in July 1996 to a reduced charge and received 30 months of probation.

Genslinger is next due in court June 5. If convicted of his fourth DUI, he faces a punishment ranging from probation to up to seven years in prison.
