Improvement project set for Lombard's Main Street

Preliminary work to improve Main Street in Lombard is scheduled to begin April 27, with the bulk of the project slated to start in early May, village officials said Friday.

The $1.3 million project, scheduled for completion in August, will include resurfacing of Main Street from Wilson Avenue to St. Charles Road and some pedestrian improvements. Federal funding will cover roughly 70% of the cost with the village paying the remaining 30%.

The village had to scrap plans for an open house because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but details of the work, including a video, are available at villageoflombard.org/main. Such construction projects are considered essential activities by the Department of Homeland Security.

The work will require temporary lane closures, but officials say they do not anticipate any detours.

Officials said several pedestrian crossings will be improved, including at the Maple Street intersection and the Prairie Path crossing.

Driveways will remain open unless curb replacement is required and no interruptions are anticipated in water and sewer services.
