COVID-19 recovery clinic opening in Downers Grove

Providence Life Services announced Friday it is opening a recovery unit at its Downers Grove facility to care for those who have tested positive for COVID-19.

Providence Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, 3450 Saratoga Ave., has set up 14 private rooms for isolation. The unit has a separate entrance and has been sealed with a zip wall.

The plan is to serve patients when they are discharged from area hospitals. Those patients will arrive by ambulance.

Other patients likely will be residents of senior living communities that do not have the ability to isolate them while they recuperate.

The unit will not serve patients requiring a ventilator.

Providence's infectious disease physician and medical director will work directly with patients and their families to determine when they are ready to return to home.
