20 apply for Lake County associate judge opening

Twenty attorneys have filed applications for the associate judge vacancy in the 19th Judicial Circuit, Chief Judge Diane E. Winter said in a news release Tuesday. The vacancy is the result of the March 2 appointment of Associate Judge Reginald C. Mathews to the circuit court. In the coming weeks, the review process will include an interview by circuit judges, an evaluation by the Lake County Bar Association and a poll of its members and written comments from the public. A committee of circuit judges will select two candidates to be placed on a ballot and all circuit judges will vote and submit ballots to the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts in Springfield. Ballots will be tallied and Winter will be notified of the candidate with the majority of votes cast.
